I never received the EIP1 check of $749.00

Q) On August 23, 2021, the IRS sent me a Notice Letter CP10 stating I received the first government issued EIP1 check in the amount of $749.00 in May 2020. To my knowledge, I never received that EIP1 check so I sent a letter to the IRS back in September 2021 asking for a trace to be placed on that check to me. I have confirmation the IRS did in fact receive my letter. I have yet to get a response. Please advise how I can get this matter settled. Thank you!

A) I understand your concern regarding the situation with the EIP1 check you believe you did not receive. While I cannot access personal or account-specific information, I can offer some general guidance on how to proceed.

  1. Contact the IRS: Since you have already sent a letter to the IRS in September 2021, and you have confirmation that they received it, it would be advisable to follow up with them. Contact the IRS directly and provide them with the details of your case. You can reach out to them by phone or through their online services.
  2. Provide necessary information: When contacting the IRS, make sure you have all the relevant information readily available. This includes any documentation or proof you may have that supports your claim of not receiving the EIP1 check. Be prepared to provide your Social Security number, mailing address, and any other details the IRS may require to assist you effectively.
  3. Request a trace on the payment: Inform the IRS representative that you previously requested a trace to be placed on the EIP1 check in your September 2021 letter. If they have not yet initiated the trace or have not responded to your letter, ask them to initiate the trace now. This will allow the IRS to investigate the status of the payment and determine if it was cashed or not.
  4. Document your communication: Keep a record of all communication with the IRS, including the date, time, and name of the representative you speak to. This documentation can be helpful if you need to escalate the issue or refer back to previous conversations.
  5. Seek assistance from a tax professional: If you’re finding it challenging to resolve the matter directly with the IRS or if you need further guidance, consider seeking assistance from a tax professional. They can provide specialized advice based on your specific circumstances and may be able to communicate with the IRS on your behalf.

Please keep in mind that resolving tax issues with the IRS can be a lengthy and frustrating process, but it’s important to be persistent and keep thorough records of all correspondence and communication.
