To whom it may concern,
I live in Washington State and I have questions on itemizing sales taxes on my 1040 Schedule A. I wish to back calculate the sales taxes on purchases charged to my credit cards.
1. At what rate are online purchases from a different state than Washington taxed? Is it by a base rate for the state of Washington, the state plus local sales taxes rates, or some other rate from where the bill originates? If the latter, what rule applies if no place of origin is specified?
2. What is the tax rate that is applied to airline tickets? Are other fees than sales taxes deductible from airline tickets?
3. Is there any other advice you can give me relating to taking these sales tax deductions?
Thank you very much for any help you can give me,
Vincent Landi
