Tuesday, November 27, 2018, I went to the local IRS office here at 960 Ellendale Dr., Medford, Oregon, to pay my quarterly taxes (2018 Form 1040-ES). It was after lunch break, about 2 p.m. A sign was posted on the entrance door: “OFFICE CLOSED: PLEASE RETURN TOMORROW, NOV. 28”.
Why was that office closed the remainder of the day (Nov. 27)? It was after lunch office break, and the posted sign asked that I return the following day! November 27, 2018 was not a federal holiday. The office hours designated for the Medford office of IRS are those common to all IRS offices:
I made the enforced return trip to that office the following day (Nov. 28) to pay my taxes. I have my “welcome receipt for that day (#219, 11:32 a.m., 11/28 2018, 4200).
Who has authority to close an office? The local, singular agent? At her whims?
